Eoin Morgan, the man who is considered as a catalyst in a white-ball revolution in England, announces retirement from international cricket. His seven-and-a-half-year’s reign leading the team comes to an end now and probably he may step into the second inning as a coach for the team.
The decision was not sudden. The 35-year-old wanted to lead the England team at the upcoming Twenty20 World Cup in Australia. His poor form and fitness for a period of more than a year, until now, prompted him for a change of heart. However, his credit in leading England to the 2019 ODI World Cup success and No. 1 ranking in the T20 tournaments cannot be denied.
The left-handed batter captained the English team from 2015 and until his retirement announcement. Prior to joining England, he played ODIs for the Ireland cricket team. He is the first cricketer to have scored an ODI hundred for two national teams. He simultaneously plays county cricket for Middlesex.
Morgan is the most-capped player as well as the all-time highest run-scorer for England in both the ODI and T20 formats. He holds the World Cup record of hitting the highest number of sixes, 17 against Afghanistan. He became the first English cricketer to have played in 100 T20s. He has played 16 Tests and 225 ODIs for England.

Morgan was bought by the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2010 Indian Premier League for a sum of $220,000. A year later, he was bought by the Kolkata Knight Riders for $350,000. After three years of the contract, he decided to withdraw from the IPL due to England playing ODIs against Sri Lanka. He returned back to the league in 2015 and was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad for $150,000. He was purchased by Kings XI Punjab in 2017 for Rs 2 crore.
He was bought by the Peshawar Zalmi team in the Pakistan Super League in 2017 for $140,000. He was placed in the Platinum Category. A year later, in 2020, he returned back to the IPL again and was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for 5.25 crores. He captained the team. He was retained by the KKR in the 2021 season too. However, he was unsold in the 2022 IPL auction.
