- Shikhar Dhawan was born on 5 December 1985 in Punjabi family.
- He is an Indian international cricketer and left-handed opening batsmen.
- His domestic career was successful as he played for Mumbai Indians in IPL but now he is playing for Delhi Daredevils.
- In 2004 under-19 World-Cup he scored 505 runs as an opener in the Indian team. He made his first-class debut in November 2004 for Delhi. In 2004-05 he became team’s leading run scorer because he scored 461 runs in Ranji Trophy debut match.
- He made his ODI debut against Australia in October 2010 at Visakhapatnam. He scored his maiden ODI fifty in 1st ODI of the tour. He made his T-20 debut against West Indies at Queen’s Park in June 2011.
- He made his test debut against Australia in 2013.
- He scored the fastest century in his test debut and made a record of the highest score by an Indian debutant.
- In test debut, he scored 185 not out from 168 balls.
Childhood Life –
Shikhar Dhawan was born in a middle- class Punjabi family in Delhi. Shikhar Dhawan has one younger sister, Shreshta. He developed his interest by watching his cousin playing cricket, he used to play for sonnet club in Delhi. He requested to his parents that he wants to join sonnet club under the coaching of Tarak Sinha.
At the age of 12 years, he joined sonnet club for bright future in cricket. Tarak Sinha was a famous coach because he trained 12 international cricketers. His positive attitude makes him strong to play cricket with big boys. In school under-15 team tournament he scored a century and impressed his coach. When Shikhar Dhawan joined a club he was Wicket-keeper. He completed his school education from St. Mark’s Senior Secondary public school in Paschim Vihar, Delhi. He left his studies after 12th grade to focus on his cricket career.
Domestic Career –
In 1999-2000 under 16s Vijay Merchant Trophy, he played for Delhi and took his team to finals. He was leading run-scorer in the following season.
- In under 16s squad, he was selected to play for North Zone.
- He fixed his place in Delhi under-19 team at the age of 15.
- In 2004 under-19 World Cup he scored 505 runs an average of 84.16, with fifty and three centuries.
- In November 2004 he made his first-class debut for Delhi in Ranji Trophy against Andhra Pradesh.
- In 2012-13 seasons he showed outstanding performance in challenger trophy, Duleep trophy, and Ranji trophy, and also scored a century against England team.
International Career –
- In 2010 he made his international ODI debut against Australia, but unfortunately, he failed to perform in that series.
- Later he got chance to play in limited overs. He made his international T-20 debut in June 2011, against West Indies but he was unsuccessful to perform.
- In February 2013 he got selected in Indian test squad against Australia. He received the test cap from Sachin Tendulkar.
- In test debut, he scored 187 runs with 283 opening partnership with Murali Vijay. Also, he made a record of the fastest century on debut.
- In 2013 he was selected in ODI squad for ICC champion’s trophy and got chance to open innings for India with Rohit Sharma. He scored consecutive two hundred in first two matches of the tournament. At the end of the tournament, he was awarded by Golden bat for scoring 363 runs.
- His performance in tri-series helped him to fix his place in Indian team. Because of him India easily chased 350 plus score against Australia tour.
- He performed very well in 2014 Asia Cup and also contributed in winning the trophy. He got chance to play Border-Gavaskar test series against Australia but unfortunately, he failed to perform.
- In 2015 World Cup he scored two centuries and back to back centuries against Bangladesh and Srilanka.
- Unfortunately, he got injured and made come back in Champions trophy and again he was awarded by Golden bat for most scoring runs.
Awards & Achievements –
- He was fifth batsmen to score fastest 4000 runs in ODIs.
- Only player to get two consecutive golden bats at ICC Champions Trophy.
- He named as “ CEAT International player of the year” was included in “ICC World ODI XI”
